Route: Ride via East Side Bikeway to the Governors Island Ferry Building to get on the (FREE!) 11am shuttle
WE want YOU…to join us for an early fall history ride! After getting off the ferry, WE will ride the perimeter of the Island together and then explore the activities celebrating the centennial of the U.S. entry into World War I in 1917. See dozens of reenactors in vintage uniforms -- both men and women! Check out the vintage Army vehicles, ambulances, equipment displays, a tent encampment, author talks, and demonstrations. Meet General John J. Pershing and the Ebony Doughboys reenactors who represent the famous Harlem Hellfighters regiment.
If you’d like to eat on the island, you can bring food or purchase something delicious from a wide variety of vendors. Participants can leave whenever they like – the ferry leaves for either Manhattan or Brooklyn on a regular basis throughout the day.
This is a beginner-friendly ride – the East River Greenway and Governors Island are both car-free. It will be about an hour of easy cycling, but a LOT of fun!
Bring water, cash for lunch (or pack your own), and your helmet.
**Note:** This event is open to women, female-identifying and gender nonconforming people only
